Blog #35: Robotics Build #39

Build Blog Day 39 (3/1/20)

Assembly:

Drive Gearbox

During the last build, we noticed issues with the right side drive gearbox getting stuck, with one gear completely worn down (no teeth where left). We also had issues with pinion retention screws backing out of the falcons. We removed both drive gearboxes and re-assembled them from scratch. We cleaned all debris in the gearbox, replaced worn gears, and properly greased the gearbox. To address the retention screw issue, we thoroughly cleaned the falcon shafts and screws with acetone and alcohol, then applied red loctite. We believe the issues with worn-down gears likely resulted from poor greasing and the steel falcon pinion destroying the aluminum gears.

Climber Assembly

We also installed the climber on practice bot. This involved installing the jack shaft between both drive gearboxes and installing the brake on the PTO motor gear reduction. We mounted the climber and connected the spool to the PTO output shaft.

Manufacturing:

We prepped the PTO piston plates and the new hangar piston mounts to anodize. We also prepped the new standoffs for the intake for anodize.
